AutoCorrect PC (also referred to as AutoCorrect for PC, like our domain autocorrectforpc.com; collectively, "AutoCorrect PC," "AutoCorrect for PC," "we," "us," or "our") operates the AutoCorrect PC desktop application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the App.

This policy applies to the desktop application only. If you visit our public website, your use of the Website is governed by our separate Website Privacy Policy.

By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Overview

AutoCorrect PC is a system-wide typing assistant for Windows. Most typing assistance (autocorrect, word completion, next-word prediction, and grammar suggestions) runs locally on your device. Some features—such as account registration, AI writing, usage limits, feedback, and error reporting—communicate with our servers or third-party services.

We are currently operating a beta program. Features, data practices, and this policy may change as the product evolves. We will update the "Last updated" date when we make material changes.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

When you sign up for the beta or use certain features, you may provide:

DataWhen collectedPurpose
NameBeta signupAccount identification and communication
Email addressBeta signup, account verificationAuthentication, account management, and service-related messages
Feedback contentBug reports, feature requests, general feedbackProduct improvement and support
Screenshots or imagesOptional bug report attachmentsDiagnosing issues you report
AI Writer promptsWhen you use the AI Writer featureGenerating text responses at your request
Selected textWhen you invoke AI Writer on selected textProviding context for your prompt (read from the active application at your direction)

Feedback is submitted to our feedback service. Other account and AI-related data is sent to our primary API.

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you use the App, we may automatically collect or generate:

DataSourcePurpose
Authentication tokenIssued after beta signupSecuring API requests; stored in your operating system's credential store (Windows Credential Manager via keyring)
User IDIssued after beta signupAssociating your account and usage with our backend
Word count / usage metricsSynced from our backendEnforcing beta usage limits and displaying your usage in the App
App settingsStored locally (e.g., language, feature toggles, overlay preferences)Personalizing your experience
Speech-to-text historyStored locally on your deviceLetting you review, copy, or delete past transcriptions
AI Writer historyStored locally on your deviceLetting you review, copy, or delete past AI outputs
Crash and error reportsSentry error monitoringDiagnosing stability issues and improving reliability
Session and diagnostic metadataSentry (including release version and session tracking)Understanding app health across versions

Our error monitoring is provided by Sentry (hosted in the EU region). Sentry may receive technical information such as stack traces, device/OS details, and the App version when errors occur.

2.3 Information processed locally (not sent to our servers)

The following data is processed on your device only and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly use a cloud-connected feature (such as AI Writer or feedback):

  • Keystrokes and typed words captured through the App's keyboard hook for autocorrect, completions, predictions, and grammar checking
  • Sentence and word buffers maintained in memory for typing assistance
  • Speech audio recorded for speech-to-text, which is transcribed by a local sidecar process on your machine
  • Caret and window position data used to position the overlay near where you are typing

We do not use the keyboard hook to log full documents or continuously upload your typing to our servers.

2.4 Kill-switch and remote configuration

The App periodically checks a remote configuration endpoint to determine whether a build should be disabled or an update should be required. This check does not include your personal account information.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your beta account
  • Verify your email address
  • Provide AI Writer and other cloud-connected features you request
  • Enforce beta usage limits (such as word count limits)
  • Respond to feedback and support requests
  • Monitor, maintain, and improve the App's performance and stability
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or abuse
  • Communicate with you about the beta program, updates, or important service notices

We do not sell your personal information.

4. How We Share Information

We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: We use third-party providers to operate parts of the service, including:
    • Sentry — error and crash reporting
    • Hosting providers — API and feedback infrastructure (including services such as Render for feedback submission)
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or AutoCorrect PC.
  • Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.

We do not share your locally processed typing content with third parties except as described above when you choose to use cloud-connected features or submit feedback.

5. Local Storage and Credentials

The App stores data on your device, including:

  • Settings — in your application data directory
  • Speech-to-text and AI Writer history — in local store files
  • Authentication token — in the Windows credential store

You can delete local history through the App's history screens. Uninstalling the App may not remove all locally stored data or credentials.

6. Permissions and System Access

To provide its features, the App requests or uses the following on Windows:

  • Low-level keyboard hook — to detect typing for autocorrect, predictions, and grammar assistance
  • Microphone access — for speech-to-text (when you initiate recording)
  • Foreground window access — to insert corrected or generated text into the application you are using
  • Autostart (optional) — to launch the App when you sign in to Windows, if you enable it
  • File system access — to store settings, history, and temporary audio files for transcription

The App skips typing assistance when certain development environments (IDEs) are in the foreground, to reduce interference with coding workflows.

7. Data Retention

  • Account data is retained for as long as your beta account is active or as needed to provide the service.
  • Local history (speech-to-text and AI Writer) remains on your device until you delete individual entries, clear history, or remove the App.
  • Feedback is retained as long as needed to investigate and improve the product.
  • Error reports in Sentry are retained according to Sentry's and our internal retention settings.

We may retain certain information longer where required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes or enforcing our terms).

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including:

  • Transmitting API requests over HTTPS
  • Storing authentication tokens in the operating system's secure credential store rather than in plain-text files
  • Restricting server-side access to authenticated requests

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal information, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data, or to object to or restrict certain processing.

You can:

  • Manage App settings and local history within the App
  • Disable features (autocorrect, grammar check, predictions, etc.) in settings
  • Turn the App off via the system tray without uninstalling
  • Contact us to request account-related actions or ask questions about your data

To exercise your rights or make a privacy request, contact us at support@autocorrectforpc.com.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

10. International Transfers

Our services and service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we take steps designed to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.

Sentry error reporting for this App uses infrastructure in the European Union (Germany).

11. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

12. Third-Party Applications

AutoCorrect PC interacts with other applications on your computer by inserting or correcting text in the app you are actively using. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party software. Your use of those applications is governed by their own policies.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes may also be communicated through the App or by email where appropriate. Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
